Aston Villa and Newcastle are set to go head to head in a battle to sign Benin international midfielder Stephane Sessegnon.
Sessegnon has had a major bust-up with his manager at Paris Saint Germain and is now desperate to secure a move away from the French club.
Sessegnon said of the incident: ‘The coach insulted me. I believe that a coach cannot call one of his players ‘a******’ or call him ‘a s*** player’ as was the case with me.
‘That is what he said to me, I am not going to cover up what he said. Under these conditions, it appears to me that it is impossible to continue to play for Paris. Impossible.’
Sessegnon, who has helped PSG to second place in the Ligue 1 with one goal in 14 appearances, could now be available for around £7 million and the knock-down price has alerted the interest of Aston Villa and Newcastle.
Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier is keen to make his own impression on his team and add depth to his squad and Sessegnon could be an ideal signing if Ashley Young decides to leave Villa Park in January.
