Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated that Mesut Ozil has similarities with former club hero Dennis Bergkamp.
The Germany international has had an inconsistent time of it since swapping Real Madrid for the North London giants, but has been in stellar form this season.
Ozil has laid on 16 assists in the Premier League this term, a division high, and is a driving force behind the Emirates Stadium outfit trying to become English champions for the first time since 2004.
Wenger has stated that the diminutive playmaker reminds him of Bergkamp, both on and off the pitch.
“He is not an extrovert,” the Frenchman is quoted as saying by The Mirror.
“But you don’t win by coincidence and he has won plenty in his career. He is demanding of his team-mates.
“He is a bit like Bergkamp. He is not that guy who stands up and speaks too much, but, every time he says something, it is just straight to the point.”
Ozil has been struggling for fitness of late and is an injury doubt for today’s mouthwatering clash against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.
A section of the Arsenal support were critical of Ozil when he first arrived at the club, but the star’s performances this season have won over his doubters.
