Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confessed that the club hope to wrap up the signing of Basle midfielder Mohamed Elneny in the next couple of days.
The Egyptian enforcer has been in impressive form for the Swiss side over the last 12 months and has caught the gaze of the North London side.
Arsenal have issues in the heart of their side currently, with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin all on the treatment table and unavailable.
The Gunners have also been accused of lacking a physical presence in the centre of the park in recent years, with no out-and-out enforcer of top calibre since the days of Patrick Vieira.
Elneny has already passed a medical at the Emirates Stadium club, with personal terms and a transfer fee agreed.
It is believed that Arsenal are just waiting on a work permit, with Wenger confirming that a deal was close.
“It’s complicated a little bit but we work hard on it,” Metro quote the Frenchman as saying.
“I hope in the next 2-3 days we get to the end of it.”
