Wenger keeping tabs on Schalke star

Arsenal are set to make a move for Schalke midfielder Jose Manuel Jurado, according to The Sun.

Arsene Wenger is looking for midfield reinforcements with the futures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri still to be decided. The likes of Denilson and Nicklas Bendtner could also be sold after the club finished another season without a trophy despite a very strong start.

The 24-year old former Spain Under-21 international played a crucial role in Schalke’s run to the semi-finals of last year’s Champions League having signed from Atletico Madrid in August 2010 for €13 million. He made 46 appearances in all competitions scoring 9 goals along the way.

Jurado started his career at Real Madrid, playing 4 games for the club, before moving across the City to Atletico for €3 million in the summer of 2006. Aston Villa reportedly moved for the Spaniard before he signed for Schalke but now it seems Wenger is willing to offer £7.5 million for the player.

Wenger has money available to spend this summer, particularly if Fabregas and Nasri are sold. The club have been linked with moves of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian attacker Willian and QPR’s temperamental Moroccan Adel Taarabt as they look to close the gap on Champions Manchester United.
