Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated that the North London club and ready and willing to spend big in the transfer market should the right potential recruits become available.
The Gunners have already lured no-nonsense midfielder Granit Xhaka to the Emirates Stadium from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer and have also completed a deal to sign prodigious Bolton Wanderers centre-half Rob Holding.
However, the Arsenal fans remain intent that the club need a high-profile centre forward to fire them to silverware, with the jury still out on current incumbent Olivier Giroud.
The Gunners have been linked with big money moves for the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Mauro Icardi and Alexandre Lacazette this summer, but as yet there has been no progress on any potential deals.
Wenger has stated that the club are active in the transfer market and have a number of targets, with money to spend should the correct type of players he is looking for become available.
“We are very active. If we find the right candidates then we will spend the big money,” Wenger told the club’s official website.
“We have already spent big. Overall we have made a big investment already but we are active.
“I wouldn’t like to come out on names because if you don’t get them afterwards, people ask why.
“We are active, very active every day and it’s not over. Today we are on July 22 and the transfer market finishes on August 31. You know that a lot happens in the last week, so it’s a long time to go, but we are active and we are working.
“Until now, nobody has spent more on a transfer than we have in this country.”
