Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will make Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla the club’s captain this season according to The Daily Star.
The playmaker’s compatriot Mikel Arteta was previously the Gunners’ captain but he has departed the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Per Mertesacker would have been a natural choice to take over the skipper’s armband but the giant German is out of action for a number of months after being injured in pre-season.
As such, Cazorla is set to be given the honour for tomorrow’s mouth-watering clash with rivals Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
The former Malaga midfielder spent he majority of the second half of last season on the treatment table but has fought his way back to fitness and could well start in central midfielder on Sunday alongside new Arsenal signing Granit Xhaka.
Wenger also has the likes of Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny to choice from in the heart of his team.
