Arsenal look set to make Lukas Podolski their number one transfer target in January after Gunners scouts watched the German international on Friday, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Cologne striker would be a perfect signing for the North London club to play alongside or give competition to in-form Robin Van Persie, who is undecided on signing a new deal at the Emirates.
It is thought that around £20million will be enough to bring the 26-year-old hitman to London as his contract will expire in 18 months. Podolski has scored over 70 goals for Cologne and 43 for Germany, a record that could move Arsenal one step closer to the Champions League places in the Premier League.
A lot of pressure is currently on Van Persie at the Emirates, who appears the only striker that can score for the side that are currently sitting seventh in the Premier League but are already qualified for the knock out stages of the Champions League in which Podolski can play.
It is not the first time Arsene Wenger has sent people to watch the Polish-born striker as his interest appears to be growing. Wenger has money to spend in January to bolster his improving squad, following the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in the summer and a striker is his main aim.
