Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated that Olivier Giroud is one of Europe’s best strikers and deserves credit for the amount of goals he scores.
The France international has been first-choice centre forward for the Emirates Stadium outfit for a number of campaigns, but has not won over the entirety of the Gunners fans.
Many have called for Wenger to splurge on a new striker that can fire the North London club towards silverware and make Arsenal a more dangerous attacking weapon.
Despite this, the French manager has backed his compatriot and refused to be forced into signing someone he did not want.
Wenger has stated that Giroud, who scored a hat-trick as Arsenal beat Olympiakos 3-0 in Greece in midweek to qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds, was one of the continent’s finest.
“If you look at the number of goals he has scored you have to give him credit,” Wenger told The Guardian.
“And he is not only a goalscorer – he works a lot for the team. He is among the best strikers in Europe.”
Giroud competes with Theo Walcott for a place leading the line at the North London club.
