Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hit back at criticism that the North London club have not added a striker this summer by claiming that three of the team’s attackers can score 20 goals each this season.
The Emirates Stadium faithful have been crying out for a proven number nine to take the team forward, with repeated links to some world-class strikers over recent transfer windows.
However, Petr Cech was the only addition of note for the Gunners over the summer, with no strengthening of Wenger’s attacking options.
Despite this, the French manager has stated that he does not need more offensive players at his disposal and has backed Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott to deliver goals this term.
“I think Giroud, Walcott, Sanchez can get around 20 goals without any problem,” The Daily Star quote the Arsenal boss as saying.
“Sometimes you have to trust your players and play them. Then they get there. People want always the absolute certainty that they will be absolutely successful. It is not like that.”
Arsenal have ambitions of winning the Premier League title this season, but lack a predatory marksman such as Diego Costa or Sergio Aguero to lead their line, with Chelsea and Manchester City a dangerous proposition as a result.
