Wenger’s future at the Emirates Stadium has been the subject of much debate of late, with the Frenchman’s current contract due to expire at the end of the season. ‘Le Prof’ has been with the Gunners since 1996 and is synonymous with the way the club conduct themselves both on and off of the pitch, but there have been calls from huge sections of fans for him to step down with silverware having been in short supply over the last decade.
BBC Sport reported in the wake of a recent Champions League loss to Bayern Munich that a new contract was waiting for Wenger and that whether he stayed on or not was his own choice, and now Palmeri has claimed that he has decided that this will be his last campaign in north London.
It remains unconfirmed at this stage whether or not Palmeri’s revelation is true, but should Wenger leave, the club may be able to use this as bait to keep Alexis Sanchez, who has recently had reported bust-ups with his boss.
Potential successors include Juventus’ Massimiliano ‘Max’ Allegri, who is allegedly being considered. Given his winning mentality and proven record from his time at Juve, he may be a popular choice.
