Wenger should look to join Manchester United in their £18m pursuit

feels that
recent events at Arsenal must surely dictate a change in transfer policy, and
has called upon Wenger to challenge United for one of Europe's hottest young
properties.

If we had hoped that William Gallas' outburst would
galvanise the football club and get everyone pulling in the same direction we
were sorely mistaken. Another dreadful performance, this time against the most
woeful of City sides, highlighted the shortcomings within our squad and when
Arsene Wenger came out this morning and doubted our credentials, he was not
wrong and the need for investment has never been greater.

We were looking back at the old days and when our
football club use to win cups and titles, then the one thing our squad possessed
was a plethora of match winners. Henry, Ljungberg, Pires and of course the Ice
Man, but now you look down at our squad and it just doesn't exist. Adebayor has
his moments, RVP when he is bothered and as for Bendtner, well he is a massive
disappointment. I appreciate Eduardo is close to a return and Vela has shown
flashes in the fleeting appearances that he has been given, but the need to
bring in another top striker, to provide us with a fresh impetus upfront, has
to be addressed in the January window.

I am hugely respectful of Arsene Wenger and feel
that the guy has brought together a fabulous young squad, but now is the time
to go out and bring in established players and start competing with the top
clubs in the transfer market. I really don't believe that constraints exist at
Arsenal and felt Wenger used that as a smokescreen, as he look to carry on his
personal crusade, but surely the penny has now dropped for Arsene and he can no
longer ignore the blatantly obvious. Proven quality is needed and let's hope,
he agrees with us.

One such player who I have thought we should bring
in for a long time now, and should have been No.1 priority when Thierry left is
Karim Benzema. The Lyon striker is a fantastic striker and has the ability to
make goals out of nothing, something which we lack at the Emirates. The French
club have always insisted that he is playing an important part in their future
and have always resisted such offers; however it is clear that they have had a
change of heart. According to reports in El
Mundo
, the player's agent has come out and claimed that Barca, Real Madrid
and Manchester United have all held talks with Lyon representatives about a
possible transfer – Lyon clearly want to sell and it's vital that we enter the
race.

Djaziri told El Mundo: "I
know that Lyon's directors have met with Barca, Real Madrid and Manchester
United's representatives and that all those three great clubs are very
interested in signing him"

I don't need to explain what he brings to the table
as you can see for yourselves, but I feel he is exactly the type of player we
need. Benzema has come out in the past, along with Ben Afar and expressed
admiration for Arsenal and in particular Arsene Wenger, therefore we can only
hope that if given a choice between us United and Barca, then we will be able
to swing such a deal due to the French connection at the club. I know he is
going to cost a few quid and I appreciate the scepticism of some supporters in
thinking that Arsene wouldn't pay up, but I believe recent results and the
total anarchy behind the scenes at Arsenal have left him with little choice –
he has to start delivering again, and players like Benzema will go a long way
in helping to achieve that.
