West Bromwich Albion set to join race for out-of-favour Man United star

West Bromwich Albion have joined the race to sign Darren Fletcher from Manchester United with the midfielder looking to have lost his place in the squad, Daily Star reports.

The 30-year-old was said to be closing in on a move to West Ham United with Sam Allardyce admitting that his potential addition will give his side some much needed experience in midfield.

However, with Tony Pulis also keen on the United man, the two clubs may have to go head-to-head in their attempts to lure him away from Old Trafford.

Fletcher is currently a back-up player under Louis van Gaal and could be available for around the region of £1million.

The Scottish star has only made four Premier League starts this season and despite his fight to get back into the first team after a long-term illness, his days at the club appear numbered.

He was also named vice-captain of the Red Devils by Van Gaal prior to the start of the campaign, but his failure to hold down a regular role has caused his manager to give that title to Michael Carrick instead.
