West Ham United have been dealt a major blow ahead of their clash with Manchester City after Angelo Ogbonna is ruled out for a least three weeks, according to reports from the Express.
The 27-year-old picked up an injury to his hamstring during the 2-0 victory over Newcastle United on Monday and was forced off after only 42 minutes.
He joined from Serie A champions Juventus for a fee around the £10million region, signing a four-year contract at Upton Park and has featured in all five games for his club so far.
Apart from their clash with league leaders City, Ogbonna will also be out of action against Leicester City, Norwich City, and Sunderland.
Stijn Vandenbroucke, the club’s head of medical and sport science, deemed the injury as not too serious and stated that the centre-back could be back in a few weeks.
“Angelo underwent a scan on his injured left leg on Wednesday and we have received the results,” he said.
“The injury is not too bad and we hope he will be back in action within three weeks.”
The Hammers have enjoyed a great start to their Premier League campaign, sitting in 5th place following impressive wins against Arsenal, Liverpool, and most recently Newcastle.
