West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic has claimed that Dimitri Payet is a good as Manchester United legend David Beckham at taking set pieces, according to reports from Goal.
Payet was signed from Marseille last summer via a £10million deal, with the Frenchman being considered as one of the best transfers of the season.
Not only has the attacking midfielder helped the club challenge for a Champions League spot, but Payet is becoming well known for his free kick abilities, scoring five already this season.
The 28-year-old also added to that tally with a wondrous long-range free kick for the France national team, and Hammers manager Bilic has compared him with another dead ball maestro in former Man United star Beckham.
“You can’t say that anyone was better than Beckham than taking free-kicks,” he said.
“But then again, you can say the same thing about Dimitri this season. In the space of 10 minutes we can name five or six great ones.
“The last one against Crystal Palace was unbelievable. Then for France. Old Trafford. Blackburn and Bournemouth. It all happened in a couple of months. The tempo he is putting them in is amazing.
“Of course teams will be worried about conceding free-kicks.”
The Hammers have a chance of making it into Europe’s top tier competition this season, with the club only three points away from Manchester City in fourth.
Bilic’s men have a tough game this weekend in a London derby, with Arsenal visiting the Boleyn Ground during the early kick off on Saturday.
