West Ham could be blown away in striker hunt as shock suitors enter race

West Ham’s hopes of signing Carlos Bacca are on the verge of complete collapse, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Barcelona have entered the race for the 29-year-old.

The Hammers have been aligned with the Colombia international for much of the past few weeks as their hunt for a top class centre-forward drags on.

Although the Irons have an offer on the table for Bacca, the player himself is stalling as he’s reluctant to join the London club due to their lack of Champions League football – he recently described playing in the competition as his “dream”.

There has been mooted interest from a range of clubs from across Europe, but now reports claim that Barcelona have turned to the experienced South American after abandoning plans to sign Luciano Vietto from Atletico Madrid.

Bacca is seen as a ‘Plan B’ option by the Catalans, who are shopping on a relatively limited budget this summer after splashing the cash in recent years to sign players such as Luis Suarez and Neymar.

The experienced ex-Sevilla ace is known for his goalscoring pedigree and even managed to net 18 goals in 38 Serie A games for a struggling AC Milan last term.
