West Ham hopeful key star will help them beat Spurs in £25m transfer battle

West Ham are hopeful that the success Dimitri Payet has had since relocating to the club from Marseille last summer will help them to beat Spurs to the signature of his £25m-rated ex-team-mate, Michy Batshuayi, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Belgium international has emerged as l’OM’s key player since the exit of the now Hammers hero, with his 12 goals in Ligue 1 action an impressive return.

Payet himself shone for Marseille before joining the Hammers in a £10.75m deal ahead of the current season, and reports claim that the east London club are hopeful that this smooth transition will convince Batshuayi to follow him.

Spurs are also keen on the 22-year-old and are looking likely to be able to offer him Champions League football, but the Irons are set for an exciting move to the Olympic Stadium and could use the angle of Payet’s success, and possible relationship with the young forward, to their advantage.

It’s understood that West Ham have received enough encouragement to believe that a deal is viable.
