West Ham still in the hunt for striker

Carlton Cole

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is still hoping to bring another striker to the club despite the transfer window slamming shut last Monday, according to Sky Sports.

The Hammers failed to bring in another striker during the final few days of the window despite working hard on deals for the players such as Demba Ba and Oscar Cardozo.

The desperation was evident at Upton Park this week as Carlton Cole was in talks with a return to the club, but the out of contract striker failed to prove his fitness and was not offered the arranged short term deal.

Allardyce took his Hammers side to Spain this week to keep match fitness levels up and a 1-0 victory over Espanyol will have lifted spirits after defeat to Stoke last weekend.

The East Enders are still working hard to add a striker to their squad with clubs being able to sign free agents outside of the transfer window.

Modibo Maiga is the sole first team striker at present with Andy Carroll still injured, although versatile Ricardo Vaz Te stayed with the club despite asking for a summer switch.
