West Ham striker desperate to help out former club in title battle

West Ham forward Andy Carroll has revealed that he hopes to gift Liverpool the title by scoring the winner for the Hammers at the Etihad today, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Liverpool threw away their chances of having the title in their own hands by drawing at Crystal Palace on Monday night and now are relying on West Ham to beat City this afternoon.

West Ham have not been in great form, despite beating rivals Tottenham last week, and have already lost to City three times this season including a thumping at the Etihad in the Capital One Cup.

Carroll however is hoping to do his old club a favour and believes they deserve to win the title.

“I am hoping that Liverpool win the league and I will do my best to score at the Etihad,” Carroll said.

“I have still got a lot of friends at the club and the lads were brilliant when I was up there.

“To be honest, I think that Stevie Gerrard deserves to win the league. He has been there so long and the football they have played, they definitely deserve it.

“They are great fans and even when they were not winning the league or challenging up there, they were still fantastic. They stuck by the team and that is where they are now.”
