West Ham striker had numerous options in the summer

Carlton Cole

West Ham striker Carlton Cole was close to joining a number of clubs during the summer but is happy he held out for the Hammers, as reported by Sky Sports.

Cole scored his first goal of the season as a substitute in the Hammers’ crucial win over Fulham yesterday and the former England man is set to play a big part in the East Londoners side in December.

Andy Carroll’s fitness will play a big part in Cole’s future though and the 30 year old may once again be a free agent this time next month.

Cole claims to have had other options this summer though, with Premier League new boys Hull City and Crystal Palace both after his signature.

“I nearly signed for St Etienne, but there were a few things we needed to wrap up and it didn’t materialise in the end.

“I was close to going to QPR, so I was getting ready for that.

“I had Nottingham Forest and a few other teams in the Championship interested.

“Hull City in the Premier League too, so I did have a few teams. Crystal Palace was a big one was well.”
