West Ham transfer boost… Giant defender could be available in January

West Ham have been handed a transfer boost ahead of the January window, with reports from CalcioMercato claiming that Andrea Ranocchia has been deemed surplus to requirements at Inter Milan.

The Hammers were linked with the Italian defender in what was a busy summer in East London, but a deal failed to come to fruition as the Nerazzuri opted to keep their man following an injury to Nemanja Vidic.

However, Ranocchia – who was replaced as club captain by Mauro Icardi when Roberto Mancini took over – was left out of the XI for the Milan derby over the weekend, leading to reports that he’s no longer wanted at the club.

Vidic is set to return from injury soon, while former Cardiff midfielder Gary Medel was picked ahead of him at centre-back against AC Milan.

Even though West Ham signed Angelo Ogbonna from Juventus they may still be interested in Ranocchia, who stands at 6ft. 5”, with Slaven Bilic’s side having conceded six goals in five league games so far this season.
