West Ham United 4-2 Reading: Match Review

Upton ParkWest Ham ended their first season back in the Premier League as Kevin Nolan’s hat trick helped them to see off Reading in the final game of the season at Anfield.

Sam Allardyce post-match…”Kevin has always been top class. It’s another double-figures scoring job he’s done yet again. When we needed Kevin again he was there. That’s what he is good at. When he scores his goals they are always very important.”

Nigel Adkins post-match…“Great credit to the players, they showed really good character and in the second half we came out and scored two good goals. We were in the ascendancy up until they scored the third. That was a shame but it’s what you do in both penalty areas.”

Man of the Match…Kevin Nolan: He may not have the legs anymore but Nolan still retains an incredible prowess in front of goal. Looked the most likely West Ham player to score on the day and it was little wonder he ended up with a treble.

Flop of the Match…Alex McCarthy: Curse of the England call-up? This was a shocker from McCarthy just days after he was called up to the Three Lions squad for the first time and was at fault for West Ham’s first when he smashed a clearance straight at Carroll. Although, in his defence, the striker is difficult target to miss.
