Football FanCast guest columnist Tom McGuire feels that Harry should resist any such temptation to cash in on Luka
Modric as Inter reportedly express their interest.
What is going on with Inter Milan and Spurs at the moment? Every given day
we are linked with one or two of their players, while other times they are
linked with ours; something is going down and barring Harry and Jose having
some sort of affair, we are clearly going to be doing business between the two
The speculation between us has been rife in recent weeks with no fewer than
four of their players being linked with a move to WHL, while rumours continue
to persist that Jermaine Jenas or inexplicably David Bentley maybe swapping
London for Milan. While I doubt many supporters will shed a tear at the
prospect of either of them leaving WHL, there would certainly be an outcry if
we were to contemplate cashing in on Luka Modric. Apparently Inter are keen to
take our talented Croat to the San Siro as they look for a like for like
replacement for Stankovic and are lining up a €25 million (£22m) summer bid – a lot of
money indeed, but if Harry had any sense he will tell them where to stick it.
UEFA Agent Durante told FC Inter News:
"He was tracking the player even while
he was at Chelsea.
"Inter are looking for a player who
can give them more quality in the midfield and help improve their movement.
"Modric can play behind the strikers –
in Stankovic's position, for example – but he could also play in central
"The two clubs are in contact and
talking with each other, even at management level."
We all know that Harry has to raise transfer funds in order to be able to
improve the squad, but sacrificing a World Class talent like Modric is not the
answer. After a shaky start he has settled into the team and today put in
another excellent display this time in an unfamiliar right hand side role for
the team. I personally think he is a sensation and in my mind he is being
wasted by Harry on the left and should be playing in Keane's position behind
the front man. He is far more effective there and much
more dangerous in the central areas.
Harry does like a wheel and deal and I really hope that he will thwart any
temptation that Jose may throw our way in potential exchange deals. The likes
of Muntari and young striker Mario Balotelli would certainly be excellent
additions to our ranks, but not at the expense of Luka Modric.
