Everton target Roberto Martinez will decide on his future after Wigan’s final match of the season on Sunday.
It has been a bitter-sweet end to the campaign for Martinez after finally succumbing to an annual relegation battle but also triumphing in the FA Cup final over mighty Manchester City, and he must now decide on his next step.
He remains the favourite to replace David Moyes at Goodison Park, although Neil Lennon is still in the frame and Gus Poyet is also a candidate after being suspended by Brighton on Thursday night.
Wigan chairman David Whelan will try to tempt Martinez to stay but claims he will know after their final match against Aston Villa what his manager is going to do.
Whelan said: “We’ll have a meeting after the final match and Roberto is so honest he will tell me then whether he is staying or going.”
“He has had numerous offers. There’s clubs bigger than Everton looking at Roberto every season because he’s a quality manager,” the club’s owner added.
“We have a partnership, we have complete trust in each other, that’s how we operate. Of course we would love him to stay but what he decides I will accept.”
