Wilshere inspires Arsenal in Champions League win

Jack Wilshere scored his first goal in two years to secure Arsenal’s passage into the next phase of the Champions League.

The Gunners’ playmaker has been out of action for over 14 months with a problematic ankle injury and last night was his first Champions League start of the season, where he opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 49th minute in their 2-0 win against Montpellier.

Arsene Wenger was delighted by the performance of Wilshere on the night and believes he is getting stronger and stronger with every given week:

“It is great to see him getting stronger and stronger. I am pleased for Wilshere after such a long time out.

“The goal will help confidence. He has to be a complete midfielder not purely offensive. I’m quite happy with his performance tonight.” (Sun)

Arsenal travel to Olympiakos in the final group game, as the Gunners Schalke battle it out to finish top of the group.
