Yohan Cabaye targeting Europe

Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye has stated that the club want to qualify for Europe this season, despite the team already exceeding expectations.

The Sports Direct Arena outfit are currently in sixth place in the standings, and ahead of Monday night’s game against Arsenal the France international has revealed that the side have goals to achieve.

“There are good targets for us to set. When I signed for Newcastle I didn’t think we would be in this position,” he admitted in a press conference, published in Mirror Football.

“There are six clubs in England that have always been there for the last few years so it was going to be difficult for us to be in there with them.

“The good start we had clearly helped us, so then we started to believe, it made us trust ourselves.

“Even when we lost games to Man City, Chelsea or whoever, we stayed around the top.

‘‘I think we have to stay focused only on what we are doing, like this Arsenal game.

“Of course we would love to keep doing well this season, get Newcastle in to Europe and face some great players.

‘‘That has to be the club’s aim long term,” he stated.
