Lazio striker Mauro Zarate, who enjoyed a successful spell with Birmingham City during the second half of the 2007-08 season, has dismissed rumours linking him with a return to England.
The 22-year-old Argentinian scored four goals in six starts and eight substitute appearances for the Blues before moving to Serie A.
After finding the net 18 times in 59 matches for a struggling Lazio side, Zarate was thought to be keen on engineering a move away from Rome this month particularly after he fell out with coach Davide Ballardini.
However, when asked about the transfer speculation, Zarate said:"I am telling the truth. I have not read anything. If I had, I would have replied. I will never leave Lazio.
"Avoiding relegation and doing well in the Coppa are our priorities.
"It is a bad period for us and we clearly have to improve. Winning the Coppa Italia would be great though."
