Reports on the TalkSport website suggest that Arsenal attacker Andrei Arshavin could be set for a return to his former club Zenit St Petersburg.

The Russian arrived at Arsenal in the January transfer window for a Gunners’ transfer record fee of £15m. Arshavin started well including a four goal haul at Liverpool in April 2009, but has since failed to live up to that early promise.

Now Zenit have revealed they would be interested in re-signing the 29 year old Russian international if Arsene Wenger decides it’s time to call time on Arshavin’s Arsenal career.

"Zenit's doors are always open for Andrey," said Zenit's sporting director Igor Korneev.

"If his situation at Arsenal does not improve and he's not comfortable in London, we can study this issue in time for next season."

This season Arshavin has contributed 10 goals and 17 assists in all competitions. It remains to be seen if Arshavin will continue to be part of things at Arsenal or return to his homeland.

However, any transfer away from Arsenal will not be down to any rift with the manager as Arshavin stated “It is not true. We have absolutely fine relations.” (Daily Mirror)
