On the one hand, joining Arsenal makes perfect sense for so many players. Until now, they have managed to guarantee Champions League football, they have a world class stadium and the infrastructure to, in theory, mount a challenge for silverware every season. Every player that walks through the Emirates door is hailed as the missing piece of the puzzle but on the other hand, what follows is years of frustration and a constant want for pastures new.
Alexis Sanchez’s future is far from certain given the very real possibility of being party to Arsenal’s wilderness years (not to mention his contract entering its final twelve months) but even players like Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas, who have dragged Arsenal to the brink of glory in the past, eventually lost patience. However, for every player who justifies a move away from the Gunners by winning trophies, there are others who simply weren’t given the opportunity to become disillusioned at the club and were shown the door only for the decision to come back and haunt Arsene Wenger.
This is a look at those who have found fortune post-Arsenal whether it be intended or pure accident.
