Last night’s drubbing by England of Scotland led many people to say that Roy Hodgson should take the reigns of under-21 manager in addition to his commitments with the full national team squad.
In the wake of England’s abysmal performance at the European under-21 Championships in Israel this summer it left other football personalities wondering how bad Scotland must be for England to be able to put six past them without reply. There were six different goal scorers too- Nathan Redmond, Ross Barkley, Raheem Sterling, Jonjo Shelvey, Tom Carroll and Connor Wickham. However, it is Wickham that found himself most fortunate last night.
The video beneath is not going to be high up in the best career moments for Tottenham and Scotland stopper Jordan Archer. In fact, it is more likely to be seen on a video combining football with comedy. The moment in the game broadcast on BT Sport does actually show a good piece of improvisation from Sunderland striker Wickham who will want to build on another goal for the under-21s for his club who he has flattered to deceive for so far.
He will undoubtedly hope that he is provided with the same gifts Archer kindly presented with him last night. Somehow I think that’s unlikely but don’t be surprised to see Archer high up on Wickham’s Christmas card list…
