After winning their first ever Premier League title the season previous, Chelsea’s dominance of the English top flight continued during the 2005/06 season, putting a second notch on Jose Mourinho’s bedpost.

But the 2005/06 campaign shouldn’t be labelled as simply a re-run, even if the title race was. It also saw Alan Shearer bag his last ever Newcastle goal before retiring, Thierry Henry become the first player to score more than 20 times in five consecutive seasons and Tottenham Hotspur’s dreams of Champions League qualification evaporate over a dodgy lasagne.
