So Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny isn’t having the best of times at the Emirates at the moment, as the Poland international lost his first-team status to David Ospina after being caught smoking in the Southampton changing room.
Following a 2-0 loss to the Saints, with Szczesny partly at fault, the 24-year-old couldn’t help it but light up in the St. Mary’s bathroom, and fined a hefty £20,000.
But there seems to be some light in the horizon for the under-fire shot-stopper, as Szczesny has just been awarded as the best goalkeeper of the past decade!
Well not for Arsenal, but for Brentford!
The Bees faithful voted Szczesny’s performance during his time on loan at Griffin Park from 2009-2010 as the best display from any goalkeeper in the club’s past 10 years, beating the likes of Leicester’s Ben Hamer and Gillingham ace Stuart Nelson to the accolade.
So not all is lost for Szczesny. However, whenever given the chance he needs to perform, because now number 1 David Ospina is on amazing form, conceding only three goals in his side’s last six games.
