There is a dispute over whether the Wales and former Tottenham star is actually the world’s most expensive player or not – usurping what his club paid for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.
There were reports that Real Madrid deliberately tried to dip under the £80million threshold created by the Ronaldo transfer to keep the Portuguese star happy. Rumours say that it is a priority of his to remain the world’s most expensive player.
When Bale met Ronaldo in the Real Madrid car park there was an aura of awkwardness combined with the very big possibility that the club staged the meeting to show the world’s cameras there is no animosity between the pair.
The video says it all. Bale and Ronaldo exchanged small talk asking each other if they were okay. Ronaldo looked very keen to get away from the army of cameras accompanying Bale but was he jealous that it was the Welshman receiving all the attention? Only time will tell.
Footage then shows Bale meeting his new manager Carlo Ancelotti and clearly reminiscing with former Tottenham buddy Luka Modric over their time at Tottenham. But now, the aim is solely getting Real Madrid’s first three points away to Villareal on Saturday.
