Nemanja Vidic and Paul Scholes both found great success as teammates at Manchester United, winning a combined 16 Premier League titles and three Champions League victories during their respective Old Trafford careers.
They may be used to playing together, but they’ll square off instead when they compete in the ICONS of Football 2017 Tournament at The Belfry on 23rd-25th June. Vidic will join captain, Darren Clarke, on the Rest of the World Team, whilst Scholes will play for the England team and his captain, Lee Westwood.
Scholes was already an established playmaker at Old Trafford when Vidic joined the club in 2006. After being called up to the first team in 1994, Scholes would play all 20 seasons of his career with Manchester United, totaling 107 goals in 499 Premier League appearances. He currently ranks 22nd in goals and 13th in games played in the top-flight.
When Vidic came to Manchester from Spartak Moscow, he was unrecognisable as the strong, physical centre back that he’s known as today. The Serbian turned himself into an intimidating defender who was able to push attackers off the ball with ease. He also had an eye for goal, totalling 15 Premier League goals in 211 appearances.
Both footballers are also known for their international careers. Scholes scored 11 times in 64 appearances with England, while Vidic brought his aggressive style of play to the Serbian national team 36 times.
The former teammates will get the chance to outdo one another at the ICONS of Football 2017 Tournament, especially when they go for the £1million Swing – where any ICON who hits a hole-in-one will win a sum for their chosen charity!
