Manchester United star Angel di Maria and Chelsea trio Diego Costa, Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois are in the 23-man shortlist up to win the coveted Ballon D’or.
Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure also makes the cut after his performances helped the Sky Blues to the Premier League title last season.
Six Germans are included due to their success in the summer World Cup, while Real Madrid players also feature after winning their 10th European crown.
With three players from Chelsea nominated, it is therefore no surprise that the Blues are currently top of the Premier League undefeated after nine games.
FIFA will however cut the 23-man list to just three on December 1, 2014, with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi the only two expected to be in the final three.
A big player who has been controversially left out is Barcelona’s Luis Suarez, who scored an amazing 31 goals in the Premier League for Liverpool last season but was omitted probably due to his bite on Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.
Does any Premier League player have a chance of taking away football’s biggest individual prize from Messi or Ronaldo?
