Meanwhile former Liverpool hero had an incredible night in Spain

After winning eight out of their last nine Premier League fixtures and looking as if they were ready to overtake Manchester United into the top four, Liverpool had a night to forget as they were defeated 2-1 at the hands of the Red Devils.

In an eventful game, the moment of the match came when Steven Gerrard, who was just brought into the game at half-time, only needed 38 seconds before he was shown a red card for his stamp on United midfielder Ander Herrera.

And to make matters worse, in another big game in Spain, former Reds striker Luis Suarez was the hero by scoring the winning goal during Barcelona’s very own 2-1 win over rivals Real Madrid.

With the game tied at 1-1, the feisty Uruguayan brought down a long ball with a brilliant first touch before finding the bottom corner of Iker Casillas’ net.

The ex-Liverpool icon had one of his best nights in a Barcelona shirt, while his old club is in a bit of disarray after their captain’s moment of madness.

Wonder how long the Kop faithful will be hiding under a rock…
