Following France’s World Cup exit and Bacary Sagna’s departure, Arsenal are understood to be closing in on a move for Newcastle defender Mathieu Debuchy. Although nothing has as of yet been confirmed, the transfer is expected to be confirmed within the next week.
With the defender’s anticipated departure, many Newcastle fans took to Twitter to praise the 28 year old’s contribution to the club, using the #ThanksDebuchy. The right back joined from Lille for a fee of £5.5 million in January 2013.
However, other members of the Toon Army were less than complimentary about the Frenchman, criticising the defender’s lack of loyalty and perceived inconsistency on Tyneside.

#ThanksDebuchy?! Is this a joke? If we thank all the good players who've been average for us then we'll be here all night.

#ThanksDebuchy for several good performances, giving away various penalties and lasting less time than my phone contract

The latest reports suggest that Newcastle are looking at Daryl Janmaat and Ricardo van Rhijn as potential replacements for the outgoing Frenchman.
