Away from the Wayne Rooney issue, there is still some debate amongst fans and pundits alike over who else Roy Hodgson should select in attack. Whilst Liverpool pair Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge seem almost certain to retain their starting spots, the other two positions appear to be somewhat up for grabs.
Out of all the potential replacements, Adam Lallana is the name provoking the strongest debate. When the team to face Italy was announced, many were surprised to see the in-form Southampton star amongst the substitutes. The 26 year old Liverpool target featured heavily in Hodgson’s plans since the turn of the New Year.
With England’s left hand side proving problematic, many fans on Twitter see Lallana as the ideal solution.
Hodgson has to go with Lallana Sterling and Barkley behind Sturridge. He can’t afford to feel obliged to start clumsy huff and puff Rooney

Rooney for Lallana and we’ll beat Uruguay based on what I saw from them today.

I would start Lallana tonight and use Welbeck as an impact sub

Lallana has to start tonight! Come on Roy, do it.

But for others, Southampton’s attacking midfielder is simply overrated.
Lallana to start do me a favour he’s done nothing in a England shirt OVERRATED

Are people really saying lallana is better than Rooney and should start ahead of him ? Have a day off

Whether it is at the expense of Rooney or alongside him, there are many supporters of the Three Lions who believed Lallana should start tonight. We’ll find out whether Hodgson agrees sooner rather than later.
