Despite Thibaut Courtois being named Chelsea’s number one ahead of veteran Petr Cech this season, Jose Mourinho may have to admit he made a mistake in this situation.
Based on stats from Skysports, Cech should be given the nod to retain his place between the sticks for the Blues as Courtois may need to take a break on the sidelines.
Although Cech has played fewer games, he is almost level on the amount of clean sheets to the current number one and has also conceded less goals.
In addition to that, the numbers show that Cech loses a goal every 127.3 minutes compared to the slightly lower 100.2 minutes when compared with Courtois.
With a vital Champions League round-of-16 clash against Paris Saint-Germain coming up, Mourinho’s goalkeeping decision is yet to be determined.
Seems that Courtois’ place in starting eleven is not as safe as he might have thought, and any errors could see him move straight onto the bench while club veteran Cech will surely be relishing the opportunity to earn back his place in the squad.
