The roles of football agents have become a controversial talking point recently as transfer fees continue to inflate to eye-watering amounts.
One agent that is seemingly always at the centre of major transfers is 49-year-old Dutch-Italian Mino Raiola. The former pizza restaurant waiter began his agent career by assisting in the major transfers of players like Bryan Roy and Dennis Bergkamp before leaving for a solo career.
His first major transfer was future Ballon D’Or winner Pavel Nedved’s 1996 move to Lazio. Since then, Raiola has become a super agent and closed the world’s record transfer last summer when Paul Pogba made his return to Manchester United.
Raiola seems to have developed a rapport with the red side of Manchester as four of his clients have joined the club in the past 12 months alone. Although he has caused controversy almost as long as he has been around, Raiola is surely one of, if not the biggest football agents in the world.
