Liverpool were playing some of their best football so far this season in the Capital One Cup clash against Chelsea last night, but they were still 1-0 down to the Blues after an Eden Hazard penalty in the first half.
The Reds have been through this many times before, playing impressively but failing to break down their opponents… but Raheem Sterling had other ideas.
Ignoring his team-mates, the England international winner received the ball in midfield and ran at the Chelsea back-line, past four players, before slotting the ball from just inside the penalty box into the bottom corner of Thibaut Courtois’ net.
And from there the Reds continued to dominate the tie, and will be thoroughly disappointed that they only have a 1-1 result heading into the second leg at Stamford Bridge next week.
However if Sterling manages to play at this level on a consistent basis, then Liverpool have a great chance of ending up in the top four to once again qualify for the Champions League.
