Manchester United fans were really excited to see their team in action over the summer, as they couldn’t wait to watch new signings Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Memphis Depay grace Old Trafford.
The late arrival of Anthony Martial also added to the buzz, with the 19-year-old going on to pass expectations and score four goals in his opening five games.
However, it is actually an older guard that has been the Red Devils’ main man so far this season, as Juan Mata has not only been pulling the strings in the final third but also racking up the goals.
And after his equalizing penalty against Wolfsburg in midweek, the Spain international made a ridiculous volleyed back-heel pass from outside the area into the path of Chris Smalling, who finished with aplomb to give United all three points.
It epitomized the confidence Mata has regained ever since losing his place at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho, and if Man United want to be in with a shout for the title the 27-year-old must continue in this vein of form.
