Only two weeks ago Manchester United fans were adamant Robin van Persie is past his best, now the Dutchman is the hero once again with two brilliantly taken goals against Southampton on Monday.
The first was rather lucky, but being a striker you need to take your chances that once in a while a defender will make a mistake and Jose Fonte did just that, as his backpass to Fraser Forster was intercepted by Van Persie before the Dutchman finished by putting the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs.
And the second was pure positioning… the former Gunners attacker being at the right place to steer in Wayne Rooney’s free-kick.
Past his best? Maybe. Still lethal? Definitely.
