Fulham need to be busy on deadline day if they’re going to give themselves any chance of staying in the Premier League this season.
The Whites are desperate for defensive reinforcements and have been linked with a wide range of centre-halves from across Europe, but one shock link has emerged on Monday, with a loan move for Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek now being widely reported.
A move for the England international is certainly exciting, and the Cottagers have been in the market for another midfielder, failing to land Florentino Luis after a long transfer saga earlier in the window.
The 24-year-old would be an exciting signing for a number of reasons, of course, signing an England international is always going to be seen as good business, but the prospect of seeing him link-up with Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa is nothing short of mouth-watering.
When the pair are at their best, they’re both progressive and creative ball-carriers, and with Fulham struggling for goals at the moment, that’s exactly what they need from their midfielders.
Anguissa averaged the fourth-most dribbles per game in La Liga last season with 2.4 per game, and whenever Loftus-Cheek gets a chance as a starter he has similarly impressive dribbling stats, racking up 3.6 per game during Chelsea’s Europa League run in 2018/19, while also averaging 3 per game during his loan spell with Crystal Palace.
Scott Parker’s side are going to be under the cosh quite a lot this season, as shown by their current league position, but if they are to improve on that, they need players who can relieve defensive pressure, while also springing attacks to drive the team forward, and a midfield pairing of Anguissa and Loftus-Cheek could be just what the doctor ordered at Craven Cottage.
