Manchester United are still adapting to life under Jose Mourinho but you always get the feeling it's only a matter of time before they really get in to gear.

Mourinho only signed four players in the summer but that did include some very shrewd business in the free signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. That said, the world-record fee paid to Juventus for Paul Pogba currently doesn't represent brilliant business but there's no doubting the France international's ability to change a game - he'll surely come good...

But while United remain somewhat unpredictable in the Premier League this season, it's difficult to really work out which Red Devils stars are worth bringing in to your FPL team.

Zlatan was your obvious pick earlier on in the season despite his expensive price tag, but he has struggled to score of late and is making FPL players wonder whether it's worth dropping him for a cheaper, more effective model up top.

But who are the most effective FPL points scorers at Manchester United so far this season? Not many FPL players take the time to look at points per game averages when picking players, but it's always worth knowing which players are consistently averaging high points and how much they'd cost to bring in to your team.

So we're counting down Man United's top five United players with the highest points per game averages in 16/17...

5. Anthony Martial - 3.8 PPG

Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial's 11 goals and six assists in 15/16 saw him averaging 4.82 points per 90 minutes last season, which is significantly higher than his average this season.

After six Premier League appearances for United so far this campaign he is averaging 3.8 PPG, which is boosted by his one goal and two assists.

The issue has been his struggle to earn a place in Jose Mourinho's starting XI - he hasn't started a league game since the 2-0 over Southampton.

However, after coming off the bench and scoring against Stoke in GW7, he may have done enough to warrant a starting role when Liverpool visit Old Trafford on Monday night.

Certainly one to keep an eye on throughout the season.

4. Luke Shaw - 4.2 PPG

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw was averaging an impressive 5.4 points per 90 minutes before his horror injury last season, so it's no surprise he's back up there among United's big guns this term.

He's only averaging 4.2 PPG so far, but that's partly down to Man United's struggles to keep a clean sheet this season - they've only kept two - but you expect that to improve over the campaign, which will boost his PPG average.

Shaw missed out on the last two game weeks but could return for GW8. However, he is the third most selected United player behind David De Gea and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, so there may also be higher value differentials elsewhere.

3. Juan Mata - 5.0 PPG

Juan Mata

Juan Mata's Old Trafford future was supposedly in serious danger when Jose Mourinho was confirmed as Man United's new manager in the summer.

But instead he has become one of the Red Devil's most effective midfielders, averaging 5.0 points per game.

The Spain international is no stranger to higher points per game averages, having only averaged less than 5.39 per game once in his Premier League career. That came last season (4.52 PPG) when Man United were generally rubbish anyway.

But what's interesting here is that only 2.5% of FPL players currently own him. At £7.4m he's also pretty cheap and even more attractive as a differential selection.

2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic - 5.3 PPG

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

No surprise here, eh? In fact, the only surprise is that Zlatan is not No.1 on this list.

The big Swede took the Premier League by storm earlier on the campaign, netting three goals from his opening two games, but since then he has only managed one in his last five top-flight outings.

He's expensive at £11.5m and a huge 50.1% of FPL players own him, which means it's arguably worth looking elsewhere for better value players.

With a PPG average of 5.3, he isn't returning amazing points as a striker each week but it's certainly a gamble by swapping him for someone else...

1. Daley Blind - 5.3 PPG

Daley Blind

A surprise high scorer in terms of points per game, but Blind has been sneakily collecting some important bonus points for the 7.3% of FPL players who currently own him.

The Netherlands international has only kept two clean sheets from six appearances but he has made up for that with two assists and seven bonus points.

The main thing to point out where Blind is concerned, though, is that he's the fourth lowest owned Manchester United defender but he still has the highest average points per game.

Get him in your team!
