Where next for Stevie G?
Inter Milan has been mooted as a glamorous destination, Liverpool a romantic one and Celtic a slightly more logical one. A guaranteed league title would round off Gerrard’s career nicely, albeit not the one he had dreamed of prior to gifting Demba Ba notoriety on Merseyside in 2014. Perhaps “guaranteed” is a little disrespectful to Scottish football but no one can deny the temptation to buy any player demanding a transfer in order to “win trophies” a ticket to Glasgow.
One thing we are certain of is that the Liverpool icon has turned down the opportunity to manage Wimbledon MK2… sorry, MK Dons. Tony Adams, Teddy Sheringham and Alan Shearer are fine examples of the fact that Premier League and England legend status doesn’t guarantee managerial success domestically and Gerrard will be all too aware of his former teammate Dietmar Hamann’s failed reign at the Football League’s youngest club.
Although admittedly wise of him to bide his time until the right opportunity came along, the decision left many of us curious at how it would have worked out. Until now…
Using Football Manager 2017, we have simulated Stephen Gerrard’s managerial debut. Watch the video to find out his fate in the land of concrete cows.
