How’s it going, guys?,
It’s been a decent start to the season for Devs and the lads. After suffering defeat in the first game, the boys then went on to win six matches in a row, scoring 17 goals and conceding just two.
Recent back-to-back defeats, however, have seen us crash out of both the Essex Thameside Trophy and the FA Vase, although there is still plenty to be positive about.
Anyway, enough from me. Who cares what I think about the season so far?
With Club Captain Jack Harrison currently unavailable as he continues his rehab, Vice-Captain Ryan Adams will be sharing his thoughts with us on how the season has panned out so far…
“New Season and a new challenge!
“After clinching the title & promotion in our debut season, we not only face the Essex Senior league now, but we also have a new place to call home – Tilbury Football Club!
“I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Tilbury for making us feel so welcome & for getting the ground into great condition for the start of the season!
“Pre-season went well, with the boys managing to put in some great performances in what was a heavily rotated squad, putting us in good shape for the season opener. The biggest set-back has to be the loss of Club Captain and all-round leader on and off the field Jack Harrison, who will be sidelined for the entirety of the season with a terrible knee injury.
“Devs was busy in the off-season, bringing some new faces in ready for the tough challenge ahead. New striker George Smith & a number of the Hashtag Academy players were welcomed into the 1st team, including academy winner Josh Osude!
“Our campaign started on a Wednesday evening at home vs Southend Manor, where after a bright start to the game and what looked to be a step in the right direction, we found ourselves 2-0 down – suffering our first defeat right off the bat!
“The defeat was a big wake up call for us and showed us that we had plenty of work to do to pick up where we left off last season.
“With another two additions to the squad from Devs in Luke Wilson and Jamie Hursit, we then went on a 4-game winning streak, picking up much-needed points in the league and winning our first ever FA competition match vs Leyton Athletic! I shouldn’t forget to mention 4 clean sheets in a row, showcasing just how big of an addition Luke Wilson is going to be for us this season!
“Overall, it’s safe to say that we have started the season a lot better off than we did last year.
“With a lot of young, hungry talent progressing throughout the side – especially Jack Martin and Samraj Gill, who have showed great promise already – we hope to build from where we have started, although we fully understand there is still plenty of hard work to be done in the long season ahead!”
