Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta congratulates Hashtag United on 3-year anniversary

Hashtag United celebrated their birthday on Tuesday, marking three years since Spencer Owen decided to create a team consisting of his friends from school and university, and boy have we gone from strength to strength ever since.

What began as a team of friends pulling together to commemorate a childhood friend before the watching eye of YouTube, we now ply their trade in the Eastern Counties League Division One South side, having previously won the Wembley Cup with a resounding 6-1 win over Tekkers Town back in 2017.

Remarkably, none other than Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta, arguably one of the Premier League’s best performers in recent years, went before the camera to offer his congratulations to us; truly exciting stuff, to say the least.

For a two-time Premier League winner, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League champion, as well as a current Spanish international to give us his best wishes speaks volumes about the growth of the club – from a mere brainchild of Spencer, to a side recognised by one of England’s best defenders, the club has blossomed in just three years.

Along with the former Marseille star, some of our own players such as Charlie Morley and Ryan Adams took to Twitter to reveal their delight at the club’s journey, and the pride they feel in being a part of such a fantastic set-up.

Notably, however, Azpilicueta’s acknowledgement of our journey signals a significant step in the club’s journey through the world of football.

From being founded by Spencer in 2016, to then opening an academy which saw Scott Pollock emerge, before now having their own eSports team and being a part of the FA’s ladder, we are becoming more renowned for their achievements across the football world, and long may it continue.
