The other player?! bigboy got something right though; both players impressed despite the loss last night, and by the sounds of it both enjoyed being part of the club as well. So today we’re really happy to say that Jesse Waller-Lassen and Sam Byles have agreed to sign for the club! Jesse is registered and available to play right away, and Sam will be signing pending his international clearance (yes it’s still a thing at our level!).
Jesse arrives as a traditional No.10 who plays in a centre attacking-midfield position, and has an impressive CV of clubs. He has previously spent time with Tottenham, Bishops Stortford, Team Solent, Salisbury and of course Rebel FC, playing against us in the Wembley Cup last year and causing some real damage to our backline so we’re well aware of his talents!
Speaking about his move to the Tags, Jesse said: “I’m looking to play regular football for an ambitious club, and looking at what Hashtag’s aims are, it’s a perfect match! I just love playing football and the draw of playing once or twice a week is exciting to me.”
Sam is more of a defensive/centre-midfielder, preferring to play slightly deeper, but like Jesse, he has also been at some eye-catching clubs in the past, including Arsenal, Team Solent, American side FC Buffalo, and Australian outfit Sorrento FC!
Speaking about his transfer to Hashtag, Sam said: “The opportunity to play regular competitive football is a real pull factor, as this has been insufficient in recent times. To play for a club with a huge, active community and loads of ambition is also great!”
As well as our two new recruits’ comments, Spencer had some interesting words to say about the pair’s arrival.
Spen said: “Some of the most successful football clubs, including Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United, made a habit of finding new players when they played against them and were impressed by them. For example, that’s how Cristiano Ronaldo first came onto the radar for Manchester United after a game against Sporting Lisbon. It was well publicised that both Sam and Jesse played really well against us at the Wembley Cup last year where we were unfortunately beaten 1-0 by Rebel FC, with Jesse scoring the goal. We were already well aware of his talents even before that game.”
“When the opportunity came up that these two were available, it was obviously something that piqued our interest after they were told that there weren’t going to be opportunities at Rebel moving forward. These guys wanted to play regularly and reached out to us, and being players of a good standard, they deserve to be playing football regularly. It became a question of whether Devs wanted to sign them or not. We had them at training for a bit, and after a successful trial, we’re happy to add them to our squad, which is a big squad now – Devs has got a real selection headache, but that’s something for him to worry about rather than me! I’m more than happy to welcome both Sam and Jesse to the fold and see what they can do in a Hashtag shirt moving forward.”
We’d like to pay a big Hashtag welcome to Sam and Jesse, and hope they can do wonderful things at the club! Drop them a like on their social media accounts and welcome them to the club:
As always, don’t forget to Hashtag it!
