“I’m always gonna back myself and my abilities, and I know the players around me are only going to help that as well.”
These were the words of George Smith upon signing for Hashtag United back in the summer, as the man who scored 31 goals last season prepared to test himself at a higher level.
We haven’t even reached the festive period of the current campaign yet, but nevertheless, George has backed up his spirited words from the summer with some inspired performances.
Having never played at this level before, the 20-year-old has already scored 14 goals in just 19 appearances, as well as grabbing five assists – in terms of goal contributions, George has, on average, been involved in a goal every game which is a quite exceptional record.
To only continue our adulation of George and his efforts so far, the man who likened himself to Harry Kane has scored some crucial goals so far this season.
Our No.16 netted a double in the 2-0 win away to Redbridge, and also scored the winning goal in the thrilling 3-2 win over Sawbridgeworth Town.
His double away to Walthamstow also secured a 3-1 win for the club, while another double – this time at Tilbury in a 3-2 win over Cockfosters – earned Hashtag some more vital points.
One goal in that particular game against Cockfosters earned George the Goal of the Month award for October, as his fierce effort on the half-volley dazzled the Hashtag supporters enough for them to vote in his favour.
It is safe to say that George has started his Hashtag United career on absolute fire, with his power, finishing skills and determination to keep getting in the right areas proving to be worth their weight in gold to Devs and the rest of the lads.
We can’t wait to see what George has in store for us in the remaining games of the campaign…
