How’s it going everyone!
We’re back with the match previews, and we have plenty of information for you to digest ahead of our Errington Challenge Cup game against Sawbridgeworth Town – the first round of the competition.
First round? But we’ve already played an Errington Challenge Cup game against Takeley and won 2-0, I hear you say.
Well, that was at the preliminary stage, where the winners battled for qualification into the competition – this time, we’re involved in the real thing.
Here’s everything you need to know…
To start off with, we’re delighted to reveal that Albie Keith and Tom Williams are back in the squad for this cup tie – a huge boost for Devs and the rest of the lads. We still have plenty of injuries but it finally feels like there’s light at the end of the tunnel on that front!
As you may already know, we have faced Sawbridgeworth Town twice this season – once in the Essex Senior League, and again in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy.
In the league encounter, we were given a tough match by our upcoming opponents, as Hashtag amazingly managed to overturn a 2-0 deficit to come back and win 3-2 thanks to a late flurry of goals!
More recently, in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy, we didn’t cause quite as much stress for our supporters as Devs oversaw a comfortable 4-0 win – however, the league clash just proved how difficult an opponent Sawbridgeworth Town can be on their day, so we cannot get complacent, and we know they’re strengthening all the time as recent results have shown. They were very unlucky not to beat Ilford last week when a floodlight failure saw their game abandoned at 2-0.
We get to be reunited with a familiar face this Wednesday as we come up against former Hashtag keeper Cav Clarke, who we first came across in the Academy and who now dons the gloves in between the sticks for Sawbridgeworth Town.
As a former member of our family, it will be good to catch up with the shot-stopper – although we hope he doesn’t bring his A-game with him to Tilbury on this particular occasion!
If we manage to overcome Sawbridgeworth Town for a third time this season, we will face the winners of Woodford Town and West Essex, who also play each other on Wednesday evening.
